Some memories are too good to keep locked away in a drawer and finding sea glass (it seems rare here in NC) is one of them. Each of the sea green bits is stitched onto this sweet little textile piece with a simple beaded brick stitch. The playful colors remind me of the brightly colored houses along Carolina Beach. I live in suburbia where everything is a soul-sucking beige so these colors bring me a lot of joy. I created branched fringes hanging from each piece, tying the glass to the idea of ocean seaweed in all its organic glory. I tried something a little different with this piece, it’s mounted on a wooden box board made for encaustics. The mount doesn’t show as the artwork is a bit larger than the board. It holds this little gem just far enough out from the wall to give it a shadow, a little depth, more of a “presence.” (You can learn this and many other ways to professionally present your textile art in my online class, Picture It Framed.)
