Purchasing professional light stands was the way I was thinking of going too. Did you then need to also purchase new mounts for your lights?

I had the same light stands - the brackets on the bottom made them hard to store so out they went into the garage where it would be a major undertaking to retrieve them... move the car and the lawnmower and five other pieces of yard equipment then climb to the back corner to put them out.)
I do enough photography of all kinds in the studio that I ended up buying professional light stands that fold up and tuck away in a corner behind the shelf.

Lyric A wonderful write-up on photographing your art work! I just finished a workshop with a professional artist and she said many of the same things. I love the idea of the level that goes on the camera. That would be so helpful. I have the light stands (as per Holly Knott), and enjoy them, but find them difficult to store away. Have you found an easy solution for storage?
