As it is, I have a half-dozen projects in various stages of completion at any given time. I get stuck, I decide I don’t yet know what I need to know, I’m undecided about finishing/display design, or I think something’s missing but am not sure what. It’s not efficient, and task-completion can be its own reward, but for improvisational artwork time to break, breath, revisit seems an inherent part of the process. The design/flow of the quilt is important, from cutting the first slice, to choosing the right batting, to finishing the binding. Then waiting till I have time off to actually ‘play’. This ‘job’ thing gets in the way of my creativity. I spend more time at work thinking on how I want things to look; unfortunately they frown on me trying to draw while at work. 🙁 My free time is very precious, and spending it creating/sewing is the best ‘high’ (I feel) one could have!

If I get started on a large project I tend to get absorbed in it to the almost complete exclusion of everything else. But, sometimes I just like to play with new techniques or work on a small piece for friends, as a break from the larger piece.
