I have loved the works of Vincent Van Gogh since I was a young girl. I love the movement, lines and seemingly simple themes. Certainly, the lines and texture are similar to quilted art, and maybe that is why I'm drawn to it. I was lucky enough to visit Auvers sur Oise, France this summer, where he lived for three months before he died, completing (I think) 80 paintings in that short time, almost one per day. He and his brother are also buried there. The landscape, town and everything about the area was inspiring and charming at the same time. He captured all in his work.

I only get one email.

It's hard to pick just one artist as a favorite. I'm drawn to van Gogh, even his muted palettes vibrate. Mary Cassatt did lovely portraits of homey scenes. Botticelli and other Renaissance painters who used religious symbolism intrigue me. I'm drawn to the interplay of color and pattern. Who is your favorite old master?

I think what I learn from them is that each of us has our own voice and we all have something worth saying.

Thank you for all your posts. It does take time and effort, but it's really nice to "talk" to you.
